Beast Downtime

Postby Chris on Sat Jun 21, 2008 7:22 pm

Today I got word that Beast is currently experiencing downtime. Anyone have any idea what's wrong with it, or how long it'll be down for? As can be seen in the picture below, a cherry picker vehicle has been used to work on it, and maintenance were in the area before replacing the gondola covers; taking down the 'Entrance' and 'Exit' signs leaving the ride in its closed state.

^ LOL

My best guess is that they're waiting for some kind of part. Since the maintenance simply recovered the gondolas at around 2.50pm. I hope it's open for your visit Sherman454, let us know in a trip report. :)

I thought along the same lines, but then they re-covered the gondolas. If it was going to be removed, then they would have probably begun removing at least one of the gondolas. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking though. If none of the gondolas have been removed by the time you visit next week, it shouldn't be going anywhere.

Isn't that cherry picker always kept there?

The cherry picker was over the top of the Beast fencing before the maintenance replaced the seat covers. It's harder to see in this second picture, but the arm is slightly extended here:

I don't think that the cherry picker is kept there. It isn't there in this photo from August last year; and I don't recall it being there from our most recent trip.

Okay, I've been asked by Chris is I could provide some periodical updates on what is happening to this ride.

I passed it yesterday on the bus, and there was a lime green coloured cherry picker in operation with several workmen. The cherry picker had some sort of very large flat metal platform on the end of its crane which appeared to have been removed from somewhere.

When I made the return journey, all of the seats/cars (not sure what you call them) were in situ on the arms and were in the air.

I'm afraid that is as much as I was able to observe at the time.
