Casino, Hotel, Water Park and Retail Development Proposal

A two phase development has been proposed for Fantasy Island costing an initial £15m and an additional £25m for the second phase. This proposal consists of a 150-bedroom hotel and retailing complex including three restaurants and a show bar. Funding for the hotel has been agreed to be backed by US investors.

In addition to the hotel an alongside casino, and 50 self-catering apartments have also been proposed. Think again if you’re worried that this development may prevent any new rides for the near future as an indoor water park is also planned.

If this becomes a reality the new complexes would be placed opposite the pyramid using the space currently occupied by the secondary car park. This would stretch across the road of Sea Lane, meaning rides such as Beast and Techno Jump would be required to be moved back towards McDonald’s. We expect the park to remove or relocate a small chunk of the market to accommodate these rides.

The whole plan seems to be a rewrite of the 1998 designs to construct an additional two pyramids to house a hotel and a water park. Unfortunately Odyssey ran over allot of these plans, so it now appears that a new design has been to developed. These new designs do involve a similar idea of a hotel and water park however without adding two new pyramids.

Whether or not this will go ahead is another story. At present Fantasy Island is only one of three locations that this development has been proposed for so it is likely that the development may go ahead at Butlins or Skegness as an alternative.

Complimenting the hotel will be several high class holiday apartments, these are to be constructed on the current site of the Peejays complex opposite Fantasy Island.

6,000 Seat Indoor Arena

Plans for a 6000 seat indoor arena at Fantasy Island are still in development. This is in an attempt to attract a broader range of visitors to the park and surrounding area; making the park appeal to a wider audience as well as attracting both holidaymakers and convention delegates. The arena is the first new major development under the new management of Fantasy Island since being previously headed by Blue Anchor Leisure LTD.

East Lindsey District Council said: "It is a phenomenal investment and it shows the firm is certain there is a long-term future for tourism here."

The complex will host concerts and conventions and is set to include an outdoor music venue. An ice rink is also planned, and could be open to the public during the daytime hours. An outdoor concert venue will also be built at Fantasy Island. Locations are currently being selected for both venues.
