Winter Developments

During the winter months of every year, Fantasy Island carry out winter maintenance on rides. This year, the park are also moving a number of children's rides around, although at this stage it is unknown what will take their place in and around the helix of the Millennium Roller Coaster. Here's a look at our photo trip report from when we visited the area on January 15th 2011.

Little has happened with Amazing Confusion since September 2010 when it was almost completely dismantled after problems were first identified in June 2010.

As can be seen in these photos, a lot of the ride has been dismantled, with the mast for the ride reportedly being sent away for maintenance at Mondial.

The Odyssey train has been removed from the track once again for winter, with more parts of Amazing Confusion lying next to the station.

Both Coconut Twist and Techno Jump are both almost completely stripped down for winter, with the cars being stored inside.

Likewise, the gondolas for The Beast have been completely removed.

This wider shot shows some of the space that has been freed up by moving the children's rides. It's currently unclear what will take their place, but there is room within the helix of Millennium for a medium sized ride such as a waltzer.

This area next to The Beast was once home to the Safari Land Train and Circus Convoy Ride, which were removed toward the end of the 2009 season. Pony Express has already been moved, making effective use of this narrow space.

There's still a small amount of space here that could be used for another children's ride.

Wreckers Cove was completely dismantled to allow the wall behind to be demolished. Wreckers Cove has now been reconstructed, but slightly further away from Fantasy Mouse, making space for another access point to the market stalls behind.

Galloping into 2011

Galloping into 2011

As another year has passed, Fantasy Island has once again closed for winter and our discussion forums are rife with speculation about developments occurring at the park. A particularly shocking revelation is that Gallopers, the park's carousel, has already been removed from the park and is unlikely to return for the 2011 season. Having been installed in 1995, the traditional carousel is one of the oldest rides at the park. The ride has been prone to a significant amount of downtime in recent years, with the ride being unavailable for a number of months during both the 2009 and 2010 seasons. More changes are afoot for the 2011 season, as it is anticipated that a number of children's rides are due to be moved to their former location adjacent to The Beast and the Log Flume. At this stage it remains unclear as to what will take their place.

Thanks to SLY 1 EA, Martyn, and Steve for the updates.

McDonalds Closes Roman Bank Outlet

McDonalds Closes Roman Bank Outlet

The McDonalds branch located on Roman Bank has officially ceased trading. Initial speculation began back in October when the outlet closed before the half term break. Despite two outlets being situated round the corner from one another, both appeared to be thriving with custom. On particularly busy days, the drive-thru was often converted into a temporary walk-thru in an effort to ease queue times. After only trading for a couple of seasons, the restaurant on Roman Bank has now been boarded up. Nearby restaurants on Sea Lane (which opens during the season) and Grande Parade (Skegness) are unaffected by the closure. It remains to be seen what will become of the restaurant.

Digging the Future

Digging the Future

Sightings have been made of construction work occurring on land adjacent to Fantasy Island recently. Several mounds of earth have been excavated from the ground. The work could be the first signs of footings for a new development. Despite casino plans being shelved last year, it might be suggested that this work is for the new arena.

In related news; the caravans in the area, next to Jubilee Odyssey's station and Fantasy Island car park, were seen to be removed, at the end of November last year. This was prior to this work being carried out, but fuels speculation regarding the future use of the land. New caravans or chalets are both possibilities. Therefore complimenting the area as more of a family resort.
